About Us

Equine Connections is devoted to helping people better understand horses. We feel that it is essential to build a relationship between horse and handler. All relationships grow through communication so it is this communication that I try to help people develop.

I believe that horses are at their happiest when they are allowed to live in a natural habitat.  All of our horses live in a herd as they would in the wild.  I feed them free choice hay because in nature they would eat continuously.  Their stomachs are not designed to eat big meals all at once.  For a grain I feed beet pulp which is soaked in water before it is fed.  I do not believe that all the processed feeds (most of which contain molasses) are what our horses need.

My horses are allowed to live outside in most weather.  They have run in sheds so that they can get out of whatever elements they wish to.

All of my horses go barefoot because after some research and experimentation I decided that barefoot is a healthier way for them to live.  When a horses hoof hits the ground it is supposed to expand outward to help to absorb the shock.  When a shoe is attached to the hoof it cannot expand.  The frog which would naturally contact the ground is not allowed to with a shoe.  These examples are just the tip of the surface.  For more information check out Jamie Jacksons book The Natural Hoof.

My herd is all ridden in bitless bridles.  I started using these a few years ago after hearing Dr. Cook speak at Equine Affair.  I used it once and was sold.  I have put them on almost every horse I have ridden.  I believe that horses actually end up with less issues going without  a bit then with.  Many spooky animals will settle right in as soon as they go in a bitless bridle.  For more information go to www.bitlessbridle.com
