Discussion thread #1: I want to expand the friendly game with my horse to include a tarp. My horse is terrified of plastic and my previous attempts at getting her to cross a tarp have been disastrous. How do I get her to accept it with confidence?

The other day, I was out trail riding on a windy day and a plastic shopping bag was blowing toward us. My horse "freaked". She spun around like she was shot out of a cannon and she was headed for home. It happened so fast that I didn't have any control. I would like to help her be more confident with situations like this so that I am more safe when I'm out riding.  A friend of mine recommended that I take a bunch of plastic shopping bags and tie them to the fence in my horse's pasture. I could also take a tarp and let it blow around in the pasture. Does this ensure my horse's confidence around tarps & plastic? What game am I playing with my horse?

Discussion thread #2: I'm not really sure I understand how to assess trust and respect issues. Can you give me some examples of what you do with your horses so that I can try it with mine?
